Copywriters and just about everyone else find this last month of the year a series of Trying Extremes: periods of great joy and fun alternating with periods of extraordinary stress and tension.
For years -- almost 40 years -- I dealt with all four (joy, fun, stress, and tension) -- not just during the period between Thanksgiving and Christmas, but 365 days a year -- by smoking cigarettes.
Two and one half years ago, I stopped, finally for the last time.
My multi-talented friend Dr. Fern Kazlow helped me ease out of a nearly lifelong habit. We worked together on the phone. After I had kicked the habit, she suggested something unusual to help me stay unhooked: chew on licorice bark (available at health food stores). About the size and shape of a cigarette, but much harder.
Like tree bark. Old, dried, rugged tree bark.
Uh, something happened that neither of us anticipated. One day as I chomped down on my licorice bark, it caught the attention of one of the crowns covering a lower molar. The crown wriggled loose from its dental cement. I spit it out before I had a chance to swallow it, but the pain and the blood that followed were... well, they were no fun at all.
A couple dentist appointments and $1000 later, I was re-crowned and good as new.
And hey! I haven't started smoking again.
I deeply appreciate the support I got from Dr. K. In retrospect, I always wondered if there could have been an easier way (than the licorice bark part).
I'll never know, but if you are looking for an easier (and much more affordable than $1000 in dentist bills) way to deal with smoking, I'd like to recommend a friend and client of mine -- John Morgan, known as "America's Best Known Hypnotherapist."
John neither asked nor paid me to tell you about his stop-smoking DVD. I don't receive any commission if you buy it, either. However, I thought -- considering what so many people go through this time of year -- now would be a good time to tell readers of my blog about it.
John and his associates have been giving public seminars on stopping smoking and losing weight for decades, and between now and Christmas he's offering the stop-smoking DVD (a recording of the live public seminar) as well as his weight-loss DVD (same) for half the regular price... plus, free shipping. (You won't see the discounted price until you click on the "order" button and get to the shopping cart page.)
I recommend John and his products for a couple of reasons: First, anyone whose business has lasted decades and has helped tens of thousands of people deserves respect. Second, I've been dealing with aspects of hypnosis -- as a coach, as a copywriter, as a salesperson, as a persuader, and as a regular ol' human being in life -- for 20 years now.
An amazing number of friends and colleagues have various degrees of interest and expertise in it.
The more I learn about it, the more impressed I am with its potential for helping people change and especially helping people out of painful situations, routines and habits.
John's stuff is reasonably priced normally, and a ridiculously good deal at 50% off with no charge for shipping. I know how unwanted habits can take over your life and add to your stress level... and how that danger multiplies dramatically at this intense time of year.
If you're looking for some very affordable support to add to whatever you're doing to manage stress and tension as a most remarkable year draw to a close, I hope you'll check these resources out and take good care of yourself throughout the holiday season. I'd really like you to be around, and in better shape than ever, as we start a new decade just 31 days from now.
